"The only way to achieve true freedom is to think for yourself, to question the dogmas you were raised with, and to recognize our shared humanity above all else."

Tianna Herman - Professional Portrait

Who I Am

I am Tianna Herman—a Public Health data scientist with a passion for healthy identity formation for individuals with mixed identities and integrative healthcare with a focus on the body, mind, and spirit. My life has been lived in the spaces between: between snow capped mountains and warm sandy beaches; between the clinical precision of public health data and the ancient, restorative rhythm of spirituality and faith.

For years, I navigated the competing projections of who I was "supposed" to be. Today, I embrace who I was made to be. I believe that while our cultures and races are vital parts of our story, we ultimately stand under the broader umbrella of our shared humanity and our unique experiences with the Divine.

From Public Health to "Sick Care"

My professional journey is rooted in evidence. With a Master of Science in Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, I have spent over five years leading data science initiatives for the CDC, HRSA, and NIH. I've spent my career analyzing health care systems—from organ transplantation to the opioid crisis.

However, my perspective on health shifted from the professional to the deeply personal in May 2025, when I lost my mother—a dedicated nurse—to breast cancer.

During her multi-year battle, I opened a "Pandora's box" of research. I saw firsthand the gap between "sick care" and true health. I discovered how the modern Western lifestyle, filled with routine toxins and persistent stress, often leads to the very chronic illnesses we fight. This realization sparked a mission: to find a way to live a modern life that is grounded in community, flexible in practice, and vigilant about health without being paralyzed by fear.

Faith and Purpose

I was born in Sav-la-mar, Jamaica to a vibrant and spicy Jamaican mother and an adventurous and analytic American father. My mother, being Christian and my father being Jewish was just another layer of complexity leading to a lot of angst and confusion surrounding race, nationality, culture, and faith while growing up.

After many wasted years trying to fit into boxes neatly, I learned how to finally embrace all the beautiful complexity of my heritage. I consider myself to be a bridge connecting siloed ways of thinking. With regard to my faith, it is not a relic of the past, but a living, breathing guide for the present. Whether it is the simple, biblical practice of Shabbat to combat the 24/7 pressures of the modern world, or seeking intentionality in the food we eat and the products we use, I believe meaning is found in the "middle way."

What I'm Building

Currently, I am pouring my heart into three major projects:

A Book on Grief & Grace: I am writing about the journey of mourning my mother, the complexity of growing up between two worlds, and the process of finding faith and purpose again after devastating loss.

Relief Radar: As the CEO and Co-Founder, I am building a grassroots disaster response application. Inspired by the difficulty of coordinating aid during the 2025 Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica, Relief Radar aims to streamline indidivudal aid trips, ensuring help reaches the people who need it most, faster.

Compound Unity: I am developing material for mixed-heritage families on healthy identity formation by embracing the multifaceted reality of their actual ancestry instead of forcing a choice between one culture or another. My passion is to raise resilient, independent children who see beyond skin color to discover their unique spirit, free from the constraints of singular labels or socialized limitations.
